Epilepsy-related risks, including SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy), are taken seriously and addressed with sensitivity and diligence. We conduct comprehensive SUDEP Risk Checklists for individuals where appropriate and liaise with neurology specialists and epilepsy professionals to put in place risk reduction strategies tailored to each person’s needs.
Our teams are skilled in supporting individuals with a range of complex epilepsy syndromes, including Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, Dravet Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, and those experiencing non-epileptic seizures. Each individual receives care that is not only clinically informed but also adapted to their lifestyle, communication needs, and personal goals.
Our staff are trained to a high standard through a blended learning programme that includes theory, practical skills, and competency assessment in line with the latest ESNA (Epilepsy Nurses Association) Midazolam Guidelines.
Team members are fully trained in recognising different types of seizures and are competent in the administration of rescue medication, including buccal midazolam and, where still prescribed, rectal diazepam. We also support individuals using VNS (Vagus Nerve Stimulation) therapy, with in-house training provided to ensure confident, consistent care.
At Chiltern Support and Housing Ltd, epilepsy support is more than clinical intervention—it’s about promoting autonomy, improving wellbeing, and helping each individual live a happy, healthy, and safe life on their own terms.
